Why did we rank Lokál u Holuba among the top places to go in Bratislava? First of all for the fantastic Pilsner, which will be tapped by either the winner or finalist of Slovakia in Pilsner beer tapping.

The beer has a fantastic creamy foam, after each sip it “rings in the glass” and is always tapped into perfectly prepared and clean glasses, whether it is a smooth, snifter or even “foam”.

At Holub’s they have very tasty and high quality dishes to go with the beer, such as pickled drowned pork, carp, Olomouc cheeses, but also well-seasoned hot dishes that go directly with the dewed Pilsner. We also really liked classics like schnitzel, fried cheese or wings. The menu changes according to the season and their doughnuts are great!

The beer is brewed in Plzen and in general the Brewer brews the beer but the tapman makes it, and at Holub they really make sure that the customer gets it in the best quality.

The local Holub’s is a tank operation, so they have a tank beer Pilsner Urquell, the difference between tank and keg beer is that tank beer is unpasteurized and does not come into contact with pressurized gas, so it is a bit more delicious and does not contain so much CO2. The beer is stored in a room that is cooled and is called a tankovňa.

Pilsner Urquell beer is tapped in three ways i.e. Slice, Foam, or classic, all three are tapped in one go and of course with love 🙂
