Christmas Market at Spittelberg

The history of this market goes back some 30 years, as a modern form of Viennese Advent traditions that originated in the 17th and 18th centuries. Today, Spittelberg is considered one of the most important Advent markets in Vienna. Thanks to this special atmosphere, the market is ideal for visitors looking for a less commercial, more local and artistic experience, perfect for a quiet pre-Christmas stroll.

The Christmas market is located in the picturesque historic district of Spittelberg in Vienna’s 7th district. Every year, it hosts one of the city’s most personal Advent events – the Spittelberg Christmas Market.

In 2025, the market opens on November 14 and runs until December 23. It is open Monday to Friday from 14:00 to 21:30 and on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 11:00 to 21:30. Admission is free. The market in Spittelberg is known for its special character. Compared to the large and often very crowded markets in the city center, it appears quieter and more authentic, nestled in the narrow, cobbled streets between buildings from the first half of the 19th century.

The stalls mainly offer handmade products, Christmas decorations, jewelry, ceramics, textiles and ecologically oriented products – the market places great emphasis on organic, fair trade and regional goods.
