I bike Budapest

Budapest is once again preparing for one of its biggest cycling events of the year: the I Bike Budapest ride, where thousands of participants come together to advocate for a safer, more liveable and bike-friendly city. The event is organized by the Hungarian Cyclists’ Club.

In 2026, the route starts from Óbuda, near Tímár utca, and leads through sections of the city where cycling is usually not possible. This gives participants a chance to experience what Budapest could feel like as a truly bike-friendly city.

The ride finishes at the City Park Sunbathing Lawn, where the traditional bike lift is expected to take place between 18:00 and 18:30.

This year’s ride will be opened by Willem van Ee, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Hungary, highlighting the country’s long-standing support for cycling development in Hungary.

Families can also join the I Bike Mini, a shorter and safer route designed especially for children and their parents.

Programs before, during and after the ride

Star rides: group rides are organized from different districts and nearby towns, allowing participants to cycle together to the starting point.

Picnic and music in City Park: after the ride, the lawn turns into a relaxed gathering space with music. Bringing a blanket, food or games is a good idea.

Official merchandise: I Bike Budapest T-shirts are available, supporting cycling initiatives.

Exhibitors: organizations like the Budapest Bike Maffia will be present, offering food and drinks in exchange for donations.

How to get involved

Spread the word: invite friends, share the event and help promote cycling culture.

Volunteer: hundreds of volunteers are needed to ensure the safe and smooth running of the event.

Posters and stickers: participants are encouraged to help raise awareness.

Important information

This is a community event, so commercial activity, advertising and political campaigning are not allowed. Participants are asked to respect each other and follow the instructions of the organizers.
