Cinema on the roof Vienna

Throughout August, the roof of the Vienna Main Library at Urban-Loritz-Platz will be transformed into an atmospheric open-air cinema with a unique flair.

Cinema on the Roof invites film lovers to experience unforgettable evenings with hand-picked films and spectacular sunsets over the rooftops of Vienna.

A place of knowledge by day, a stage for cinematic moments by night: The roof terrace of the Main Library will become one of the city’s most popular cultural venues in the summer. The 2025 edition runs from August 1 to 31 – daily, weather permitting. This year’s theme is “Love Stories” and brings romantic classics, modern romances, and international highlights to the screen.

The screenings begin at sunset, around 8:30 p.m. Drinks and snacks will be available on site, but you are also welcome to bring your own blankets or cushions for a cozy getaway. Seating is limited (approximately 80), ensuring an intimate yet communal atmosphere.

Whether it’s a date, a cultural evening with friends, or a summer film under the open sky, the rooftop cinema is a must-see in August.
