The Palm House in the Burggarten is considered one of the most beautiful Art Nouveau glass houses in the world. One part of the building houses the Butterfly House, where hundreds of free-flying, exotic butterflies live in a miniature tropical rainforest at 26°C and 80% humidity under almost natural conditions.
A waterfall, small ponds and bridges create a picturesque backdrop in the butterfly house, against which the beauty of the butterflies unfolds and provides an opportunity for excellent photos. The butterfly house takes you into a fascinating world of experience amidst hundreds of free-flying, exotic and colourful butterflies. The colourful butterflies swing through the tropical vegetation, flutter curiously around the visitors or sail from flower to flower in search of nectar.
Informative display boards in the butterfly house provide interesting facts about these wonderful insects and give an overview of the life cycle of a butterfly. You can even watch the butterflies hatch in the so-called “chrysalis box”. You can also see the giant colourful Atlas butterfly with its fantastic pattern and a wingspan of up to 30 cm.
All in all, this Vienna landmark is one of the best things to see if you’re looking for something unusual, interesting and fun. Ideal for families with children or even a group of friends. The Butterfly House offers a unique and entertaining experience to see the world of butterflies up close. Definitely a must!
