Cheap moth powder was produced behind an oriental façade during the monarchy. In a prime residential area in Vienna’s Döbling district, a building has stood for more than a hundred years that looks like a mosque but has never been one – even though the Embassy of Pakistan is only two streets away, on Hofzeile. The oriental-looking brick building in Nusswaldgasse was rather the moth powder factory of the entrepreneurial family Zacherl, in short: the Zacherlfabrik.
Event though this building has served as a popular event place where many interesting events, festivals and showcases took place…a couple of years ago it was closed down. Nevertheless, this building is a one-of-a-kind wonder of Viennese architeecture which is still beautiful to look at from the outside.
If you are interested in architecture or like to look at beautifully decorated buildings, this location is definitely worth to see as one of the less known tourist locations in Vienna.
