Hanami at Hanspaulka

Spring in Prague will embrace Japanese tradition on April 25, 2026 – the popular Hanami festival will take place in Hanspaulka Park, bringing the authentic atmosphere of the cherry blossom celebration.

The event is organized by the Czech-Japanese Society and this year marks its seventh edition.

Hanami, which translates to “flower viewing,” is a deeply rooted Japanese tradition dating back to the 8th century. The symbolism of cherry blossoms—representing the fleeting nature of beauty, life, and rebirth—gives the entire event a unique meaning. In Prague, visitors can experience this tradition through a relaxed picnic under blooming trees.

All you need to do is bring a blanket or borrow one on-site and enjoy a peaceful day outdoors. The atmosphere will be complemented by Japanese street food, traditional sweets, green tea, and refreshing yuzu drinks. Adults can also enjoy Japanese whisky or cherry blossom-flavored beer.

The program will also include cultural and creative activities. Visitors can try calligraphy, origami, making Shinto talismans, or traditional sashiko embroidery. There will also be demonstrations of tea ceremonies, performances with Japanese wadaiko drums, and presentations of martial arts. For children, there will be competitions and other fun activities.
