70th International Film Festival Berlin – Berlinale

Since 1951 the film festival takes place in the German capital. The then festival director opened the event in the Titania Palace with the film “Rebecca” by Alfred Hitchcock. The Golden Bear, the trophy for the best film in the competition, will initially be awarded by the public. Since 1956, a jury has selected the recipients of the award. Previously, about 20 films will be nominated by the Festival Directorate. Meanwhile, the event is one of the world’s most significant events in the industry. But it’s not just the nominated productions that make the Berlinale a popular big event. The tickets for the other films are also in great demand. Unlike other film festivals, there are tickets for all performances, so the Berlinale is the largest public festival in the world. For several years now, the center of the festival has been the Theater am Potsdamer Platz, which replaced the Zoo-Palast. There you can meet at premieres on your favorite star and experience a touch of Hollywood glamor. But many other cinemas in the city are also the scene of cinematic presentations during the festival – many of them are European or even world premieres.
