RákócziSokk Festival

On June 20, Rákóczi Square in Budapest’s 8th district will once again come alive with music as the annual RákócziSokk Festival returns for an evening of free live concerts. The event brings together a diverse lineup of artists, ranging from alternative pop and folk-inspired songwriting to contemporary jazz and energetic Balkan sounds.

The festival opens with kiazaki, a young Hungarian band that has quickly gained attention through several local talent competitions. Their music blends elements of the Hungarian alternative scene with funk-rock influences, paired with personal and relatable lyrics.

Next on stage is Hegedűs Józsi and the Vadvirág Ensemble, known for their intimate acoustic sound and poetic songwriting. Their music carries echoes of Hungary’s singer-songwriter tradition while maintaining a distinctly personal voice.

Later in the evening, the Bujdosó Quartet takes over with a performance that combines jazz, contemporary music and improvisation. Their concerts are built around spontaneous musical dialogue, creating a dynamic and unpredictable live experience.

Closing the festival is Hét Hat Club, whose unique style mixes Balkan, Roma and modern influences. The band describes its music with terms such as “gyp-hop,” “maneleton” and “turbo folk jazz,” promising an energetic finale full of rhythm and danceable grooves.
