Premieres in theaters February 2025. If you want to take a break from everyday stresses and responsibilities, how about trying cinema in addition to the top events? Slovak cinemas promise great entertainment in February too. Lovers of suspense, good music, families with children, and fans of Marvel movies will be in for a treat.

1. The Tundra within me

Sámi artist Lena comes to northern Lapland with her son to get inspiration for her upcoming project on Sámi gender issues. After years of living in the big city, she returns to the place where she grew up and gradually reassesses her priorities. Moreover, he falls in love with the reindeer herder Máhtte. But his mother does not like Lena. Lena begins to doubt not only whether the relationship makes sense, but also her own art. Director Sara Margrethe Oskal’s debut film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. Slovak premiere: 6.2. 2025.

2. A Completely Unknown

This American biographical drama is based on the book Dylan Goes Electric! by Elijah Waldo. The film follows Bob Dylan’s transition from acoustic songs to electric instruments. Timothée Chalamet stars in the lead role of Bob Dylan. The title of the film is derived from the lyrics of Dylan’s 1965 single “Like a Rolling Stone”. Slovak premiere: 6.2. 2025.

3. Little Big Dog

Although ten-year-old Annie’s parents try their best, bad luck keeps nipping at their heels. Not only are they threatened by a severe drought, but also by a local businessman who plans to buy up all the farms in town. And so they are in danger of losing their home. Can this be avoided? How about winning the prestigious International Dog Agility Championship! But to win, the crossbreed that Annie found on the street and is now part of the family must win. A beautiful story about love, the power of friendship and also about the importance of family. Slovak premiere: 6.2. 2025.

4. On the baking sheet

Marek has just graduated from college, started a job where he was given a very ambitious project. However, he is not doing so well in his personal life. In fact, he finds a backpack in the hallway of his house and when he wants to return it, he is detained by a policeman. But he doesn’t go to jail; the policeman makes him cooperate. His task is to get close to his neighbours – the three Grundz brothers, who live in the apartment one floor below, where they cook meth. And since Marek is an economics college graduate, the drug trade just keeps blossoming. Slovak premiere: 6.2. 2025

5. The scent trail

Zuzana Piussi’s film follows the stories of miscarriages of justice and people who, even while serving long sentences, seek to rebuild their trial. The film explores the scent trace method, which uses the sensitive sense of smell of dogs that can distinguish certain substances in trace amounts. While the results are relevant in many cases, the Czech police and judiciary have incorporated this method into the practice of administering justice and elevated it to the level of key evidence. In practice, this means that if a suspect’s scent trace is identified as positive, this is sufficient for a conviction. This is even without or in spite of other evidence. Slovak premiere: 6.2. 2025.

6. Emilia Perez

Rita, a lawyer, works in a big firm. She is extremely qualified but underpaid. Moreover, she is more interested in getting criminals out of custody than bringing them to justice. So it is in the case of the murder of a prominent man’s wife, when she manages to get a verdict that suicide was behind the woman’s death. Even though she went against her conscience… But thanks to this trial, she gets an unexpected chance. She is hired by the leader of the Manitas cartel to help him get out of the business and carry out a plan he has been working on for years. Manites wants to become a woman… The crime comedy musical is based on an opera libretto loosely adapted from the novel by Boris Razon Ecoute. The film has already won seven European Film Awards, including ten Golden Globe nominations. Slovak premiere: 13.2. 2025.

7. Cold

Detective Óðinnse uncovers the disturbing truth about a juvenile detention centre where two boys died in the 1980s under unexplained circumstances. At the time, it was all closed down as an accident, but years later, new facts and mysterious events come to light. What’s more, the case also touches his teenage daughter, whom he is raising alone after the mysterious suicide of his wife. Slowly the detective’s rational thinking, and his certainty, crumble. Chilling suspense is promised by the name of the director, this crime drama is directed by Erlingur Thoroddsen, who is known as a horror filmmaker. The film received six nominations for the Icelandic Film and Television Academy Edda Awards. Slovak premiere: 13.2. 2025.

8. Dogman

A police dog and his cop get injured while on duty, simultaneously, at the same time. In order to save them, doctors perform an extraordinary operation – they combine the two and thus Dogman is created. He wants to continue to protect and serve, and also to fetch. With his unexpected abilities, he wants to make a good impression on his boss. But a feline supervillain arrives on the scene and it’s up to Dogman to thwart his evil plans. Slovak premiere: 13.2. 2025

9. Captain America: Brave New World

Another Marvel movie is coming to cinemas. After Thaddeus Ross is elected President of the United States, Sam Wilson finds himself at the center of an international incident. It’s up to him to stop its true perpetrators. The American superhero film is the fourth installment in the Captain America film franchise, the sequel to the television miniseries The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and the 35th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Slovak premiere: 13.2. 2025.

10. Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy

She’s back! Bridget Jones is mom to 9-year-old Billy and 4-year-old Mabel. However, she was widowed four years ago, so she’s raising the kids on her own with the help of her friends and even her ex-lover Daniel (Hugh Grant). It wouldn’t be Bridget if she wasn’t once again stuck in a state of emotional despair. And once again she goes in search of a new love. Slovak premiere: 20.2. 2025.
