That it turned out to be a lone female artist who had almost single-handedly created the acclaimed black metal album ‘M’ created, to say the least, some turmoil among the more orthodox listeners. But that was then. Today, Myrkur has collaborated with some of the world’s most prominent names, including on the acclaimed 2017 follow-up ‘Mareridt’. But for those who thought they understood the Danish singer, songwriter and actress also known as Amalie Bruun, a big surprise awaited them when she released ‘Folkesange’ in 2020. An album where she breathed life into ancient Scandinavian folk music in a way that was fragile, naked and poignant.
Earlier this year the new album ‘Spine’ was released and once again we get to hear Myrkur in a way we have never heard her before. This time, she has drawn on both folk music and black metal but channeled the two influences into, by her standards, straightforward pop songs – without losing an ounce of the rich, boundary-pushing approach that has become her trademark. On March 16, the ever-changing Myrkur comes to Slaktkyrkan in Stockholm – tickets are now available!
