Cat Power has always had a liberatingly generous approach to covers. Although several of her albums of original material are considered classics, she’s been releasing covers since the early 2000s, such as 2008’s ‘Jukebox’ or the stunning ‘Covers’. Such as the remarkable ‘Jukebox’ from 2008 or why not the incomparable ‘Covers’ from 2022. Records where she shows that besides being an outstanding composer herself, she also has that special ability to interpret other artists’ works without losing the magic of the original or her own identity.
Now Cat Power, or Chan Marshall as she is really called, is interpreting one of the greatest icons of our time – Bob Dylan! Specifically, his concert at the Royal Albert Hall in 1966. Actually, the concert was recorded at the Manchester Free Trade Hall that year, but the recording was long believed to have come from the Royal Albert Hall and that name has stuck to this day. Her interpretation of the concert as a whole is respectful and faithful to an artist who has never been faithful to her own original versions but – as always with Cat Power – the result is strikingly relevant. On April 20, Cat Power will perform the album ‘Cat Power Sings Dylan: The 1966 Royal Albert Hall Concert’ at Cirkus in Stockholm!
