Britain in 2009: a country in economic crisis, governed by distorted politics and with a stagnant rock scene. Something had to be done – that’s how IDLES reasoned when they formed in Bristol that year. Since then, the band has been described as “one of the UK’s most important bands of the last decade” by NME, and is at the heart of the new British post-punk wave, alongside the likes of Squid, Dry Cleaning and Porridge Radio. Now we can announce that the band is coming to Sweden for their biggest gig yet, with a visit to Annexet in Stockholm on March 18th.
IDLES got their big break in 2018 with the album “Joy As An Act of Resistance.” Fronted by the band’s Joe Talbot, the passionate spoken word singer preaches about everything he cares about: migration policy, masculinity norms, addiction, mothers, the British healthcare system… and why you should NEVER fight men in permed hair.
During their unlikely career, IDLES have topped the UK album charts, played Coachella and been nominated for the prestigious Mercury Prize. But they are probably best known for their energetic and loving live performances, where they are not afraid to involve the audience. “I started a band in order to make people feel like they’re part of something much bigger than themselves”, Joe Talbot said in an interview.
