Inti-Illimani Histórico to Konserthuset Stockholm on September 23rd for a long-awaited concert!

The group Inti-Illimani was formed in 1967 by engineering students at Santiago’s Technical University. They shared a strong interest in the roots of Latin American folk music and an ability to combine folklore with popular music. By also incorporating social aspects into their lyrics, they soon became one of the main representatives of the Nueva Canción music movement.

After the 1973 coup d’état in Chile, Inti-Illimani was banned by the military junta and lived in exile in Italy. After 15 years, the group returned to Chile in 1988 and became an important part of the democratization movement, a commitment to which they have remained faithful.

The group split for various reasons and became two: Inti-illimani Histórico and Nuevos Inti-illimani. We have invited Inti-Illimani Histórico to Stockholm, 50 years after the military coup in Chile that marked the beginning of a 17-year military dictatorship that brought horror and persecution to millions of Chilean families. With its musically unifying power, which has united and inspired not only the Chilean people but also people all over the world, we can look forward to a great concert experience.
