Brooklyn Funk Essentials

After several sold-out gigs, Brooklyn Funk Essentials returns to the Fasching stage!

This year marks thirty years since Brooklyn Funk Essentials released their first album “Cool & Steady & Easy”. With over 16 million streams on Spotify, the album is still going strong today and is seen by many as a classic from its era. A re-release of the album will be released this spring on Dorado Records.

Brooklyn Funk Essentials began as a jam project at producer Arthur Baker’s Shakedown Studio, where he and Swedish bassist/producer Lars ‘Latte’ Kronlund invited musicians, singers, poets and DJs to play out grooves that blended hip-hop, jazz, soul, Latin, spoken word and dub into a boiling funk party. Since then there have been seven albums and countless tours around the world.

Since 2016, British house queen Alison Limerick has been the lead singer of BFE – a role she shares with Stockholm-based Desmond Foster, who also plays guitar. Hux Nettermalm plays drums with Kronlund on bass and Rickard Valdés on congas. In the horn section we find young Swedish stars Ebba Åsman on trombone and Erik Tengholm on trumpet. The sax is handled by Loic Gayot and behind the keyboard is Kristoffer Wallman.
