Inside the courtyard of the historic Sapienza University stands one of Francesco Borromini’s most original masterpieces. Sant’Ivo is particularly striking for its geometric design, dome and distinctive spiral lantern, which seems to twist upwards towards the sky.
Designed by Borromini in the 17th century, the church is one of the boldest examples of Roman Baroque architecture. We chose it because it reveals the experimental side of Baroque Rome through a work that is often less familiar to visitors than Bernini’s masterpieces.
