Overlooking Piazza di Spagna, the Keats-Shelley House occupies the rooms where English poet John Keats spent the final months of his life and died in 1821 at just 25 years old. The house preserves manuscripts, letters, books and objects connected to Keats and other English Romantic poets.
One particularly poignant detail is that Keats came to Rome hoping the climate might improve his health, but died only a few months later. We chose it because its intimate and melancholic story offers a very different experience from Rome’s monumental attractions.
