Known by Romans as “Er Fontanone”, the Fontana dell’Acqua Paola dominates the Janiculum Hill with its monumental marble façade. It was built in the early 17th century to celebrate the restoration of the ancient Trajan Aqueduct, and water still flows through the fountain’s five great arches. Its elevated position also offers one of the most beautiful views over central Rome.
