Located beside the Tiber in the heart of Trastevere, Villa Farnesina is an elegant Renaissance residence decorated by some of the period’s greatest artists. Raphael and his school created several celebrated frescoes here, including those in the Loggia of Cupid and Psyche. The villa was built in the early 16th century for wealthy banker Agostino Chigi, who hosted lavish parties and banquets for Rome’s elite. We chose it because it offers an intimate way to experience Renaissance Rome and see Raphael’s work away from the atmosphere of larger museums.
