Night Star Walk Rome

Saturday, 9 July (9.00pm) sees the return by popular demand of the Night Star Walk, the now classic and much-appreciated night walk (about 5 km on foot) around the ‘Livio Gratton’ Astronomical Park, in one of the most evocative and darkest locations of the Castelli Romani, a place where it is still possible to observe the starry sky with the naked eye.

During the walk, visitors will be able to learn from the expert operators of the Associazione Tuscolana di Astronomia (ATA) interesting information on light pollution and how to limit it, the geological history of the Latium volcano, the landscape of the Castelli Romani natural park, including the local flora and fauna, and of course – in a place sheltered from direct light – they will be able to orient themselves in the starry sky, learning to recognise the main constellations of the period.

At the end of the walk, on their return to the “Livio Gratton” Astronomical Park in Rocca di Papa (RM), they can put their eye to the eyepiece of the telescope to observe some of the celestial objects otherwise invisible to the naked eye.

For the Night Star Walk evenings, we recommend clothing suitable for cold weather in spring/autumn and cool weather in summer, closed-toe boots (also trekking boots and in any case waterproof), headlamp or simple torch (compulsory). The activity is not recommended for children under the age of 6.
