If you love art and history, you should visit the Hungarian National Gallery, located in Buda Castle on St. George’s Square!
The museum houses one of Hungary’s most important fine art collections, where you can see numerous Hungarian works of art ranging from the Middle Ages all the way to the modern era. The exhibition is very diverse, as the medieval and Renaissance artworks, the Gothic winged altars, and the significant works of 19th- and 20th-century Hungarian painting are truly impressive and offer a breathtaking sight.
The exhibition halls also feature a few works by the famous Mihály Munkácsy, as well as pieces by world-renowned Impressionist painters. You can admire works by world-famous artists such as Monet, Van Gogh, and even Rembrandt! In addition to Munkácsy, works by Hungarian painters are also on display; for example, paintings by Tivadar Csontváry Kosztka and Pál Szinyei Merse hang on the walls. The museum regularly organizes guided tours and museum programs.
