Sauna on the banks of the Danube

Sauna on the banks of the Danube

  • Budapest events, What to do in Budapest
  • 3000-6500 Ft

There is something special about not wanting to shut yourself inside the city in mid-February, but instead heading out to the banks of the Danube. About not sitting in a heated room, but breathing between the cold air and the heat of the sauna. This winter, the PLACCC Festival and the SVUNG Research Group make exactly this possible: for five days, a mobile sauna moves to the Bert promenade, directly on the Danube riverbank, behind Dürer Kert.

This is not a classic wellness program. It is a public-space experiment, a mini-festival, a performance, a discussion series and a cold-water challenge at the same time. The shared idea: the Danube should remain a public space in winter as well.

Between February 18–22, a mobile sauna with a capacity of 20 people will operate on the Bert promenade. The project builds on the memory of the former Valyo Mobile Sauna Bus and now returns as a focused mini sauna festival accompanied by strong conceptual content.

The programs address:

  • city and river
  • ecology and art
  • bodily experience and boundaries
  • collective use of public space
