One of southern Africa’s hottest bands comes to Fasching with its mix of Zimbabwean rhythms, Afrobeat and Afro-rock.
Mokoomba – the six-piece band from Chinotimba township in Victoria Falls, northern Zimbabwe – broke through just over a decade ago with the album Rising Tide, an album of original songs that blends local musical styles with influences from pop and pan-African styles, soukous, Afrobeat, funk and reggae.
Mokoomba has released three albums, toured all over the world, playing with artists such as Hugh Masekela and Babaa Maal and at European festivals such as Roskilde in Denmark, Womad in England, the Hungarian Sziget Festival and North Sea Jazz in the Netherlands.
Over a rich percussion groove, weaving guitar riffs and a richly intertwined vocal performance involving the whole band, lead singer Mathias Muzaza leads the band in lyrics written in Tonga, Shona and English. Clear away the tables and chairs, polish up your dancing shoes and prepare for one hell of a swing with the young kings of Zimbabwe.
The concert is made under the collaboration: Fasching x Selam
Mathias Muzaza – lead vocals, percussion
Trustworth Samende – guitar, vocals

Ndaba Coster Moyo – drums, vocals
