Discover Budapest from a completely new perspective!

Many people know Budapest for the Parliament, Buda Castle, the Chain Bridge, or the panoramic views along the Danube. However, the city is also full of tiny surprises. Among these are the miniature statues created by Mihály Kolodko, hidden at various locations throughout Budapest.

These small bronze artworks make it feel as if Budapest has transformed into one huge treasure hunt: you have to walk, pay attention to the details, and along the way discover places that you may have previously just walked past.

On a summer day, there is nothing better than slowly exploring the hidden treasures of Budapest on foot. There is no need to hurry, no entrance fee, no crowds, and every statue you find gives you a small sense of achievement. Walking along the Danube-side routes is especially pleasant: you can admire the panorama, rest on a bench, stop for a coffee or an ice cream, and discover a new side of the city along the way.

Searching for the miniature statues is a particularly great activity for couples, groups of friends, and families, as it is essentially a free urban treasure hunt.

Kolodko miniature statues in Budapest – locations and attractions:
1. The “Főkukac” miniature statue

  • Location: Budapest District I, Bem Quay, near the Halász Street stop
  • The statue depicts Főkukac, a beloved character from the famous Hungarian cartoon The Great Ho-Ho-Ho Fisherman. Its location close to the Danube makes it a perfect stop during a summer walk. The tiny bronze figure faces the river, as if it were watching the city itself.

2. Rubik’s Cube miniature statue

  • Location: Budapest District I, near Batthyány Square, by the staircase leading down to the riverside
  • The world-famous Hungarian invention could not be missing from the treasure hunt. The small cube is placed on a slightly tilted surface, making it look as if it is currently being twisted and solved.

3. Mini tank

  • Location: Budapest District I, around Bem Quay
  • A tiny tank whose special feature is that its barrel bends downward. The statue playfully refers to historical themes while becoming a charming little urban detail.

4. Balloon dog miniature statue

  • Location: Downtown Budapest, near the Danube
  • The statue depicts a balloon animal dog, evoking the world of modern art and playfulness. It is a very photogenic artwork and shows that these statues do not only deal with historical themes but also include humorous and contemporary ideas.

5. The Checkered-Eared Rabbit

  • Location: Buda side, near the Buda Castle Funicular
  • The legendary Hungarian cartoon character, the Checkered-Eared Rabbit, is an especially exciting stop for children, turning the walk into a real fairy-tale adventure.

6. Yoda miniature statue

  • Location: Budapest District XI, near Szent Gellért Square
  • Yoda, the iconic character from the Star Wars films, shows how diverse the themes of Budapest’s tiny artworks can be: from Hungarian fairy tales to global pop culture.

It is worth starting the walk along the Buda riverside. From here, several miniature statues can easily be reached, while you can enjoy beautiful views of the Danube and the Parliament throughout the route.

A good route could be:

Bem Quay → Batthyány Square → Danube riverbank → Downtown → Szent Gellért Square

Along the way, it is worth not only searching for the statues but also exploring the city itself: old buildings, small streets, unique cafés, and places that are easy to miss during a traditional sightseeing tour. Thanks to Kolodko’s miniature statues, Budapest becomes not just a capital full of famous attractions, but a playful city filled with stories, where every corner may hide a new discovery.

Location: Various points around Budapest, mainly along the riverside areas, downtown streets, and squares
Ticket price: 0 Ft (free)
Duration: Approximately 2–5 hours, depending on how many statues you want to find.
