Botanical Garden University of Vienna

If you are looking for a place where to take a walk with no dogs or people running around or riding bicycles, the Botanical Garden of the University of Vienna is the place to go. The botanical garden has been established in 1754 by Empress Maria Theresa and since then it has been a place of extensive research of botanists from Vienna University. The complex extends on 8 hectares of the area directly adjacent to the Upper Belvedere complex and is open to all people who like to take walks, are interested in plants or simply want to see something new and interesting.

The whole garden has been completely rebuilt after it was almost destroyed during World War II. Nowadays, you´ll be able to enjoy more than 11, 000 species of plants which have been planted either in the outdoor area or in the greenhouses which were originally built in the early 1890s. You´ll be able to see more common species such as orchids, violets and roses but also tropical plants native to subtropical areas such as cacti or even pineapples.

The gardens have been newly opened since April 15, but the guided tours will start in July. The admission without the guided tour is free of charge to everyone, so if you want to check it out, just go and have a look. All the information provided may change due to the situation.
