ARTWALK : An artistic audio walk through Favoriten

As part of the FAVORITE FALL cultural festival (www.favoritefall.at), three different ARTWALKs will take place in Favoriten, offering the opportunity to immerse yourself in the history and culture of the district. The first multimedia audio walk will take place the weekend before the festival begins: On September 13, 14 and 15, it leads from Reumannplatz to the festival headquarters in the Brotfabrik and deals with the often lurid media coverage of favorites and prejudices against the young people of the district.

An authentic look beyond the headlines ARTWALK Favoriten invites you to experience Vienna’s 10th district from a new perspective. Together, the transdisciplinary cultural association ECHOLOT and the media start-up INSELMILIEU Reportage tell stories that often don’t find a place in the media. Instead of relying on the negative headlines that often portray the district as a problem area, this walk invites you to discover Favoriten up close and get to know the diversity and vibrancy of the district. Here you will meet people who live and work in Favoriten and hear their stories first-hand. The young people of the district, who are often confronted with prejudices, provide authentic insights into the reality of their lives. These personal stories show what it is really like to grow up in Favoriten – with all the challenges, but also the opportunities that this district offers.

Interface between journalism and art The ARTWALK, which sees itself as a kind of adventure trail through the tenth district, is a transdisciplinary exploration. The format combines various forms of artistic expression such as photography, literature, hip hop, performance and dance. The approximately two-kilometre walk begins with the famous ice cream dumplings at Tichy on Reumannplatz, leads along the lively Favoritenstraße and invites you to linger in small green oases such as Puchsbaumpark or a traffic island on Quellenstraße. Along the way, the tour is accompanied by the finest hip-hop beats from the municipal building and pop music as a cage concert. Women in public space The combination of direct encounters and artistic engagement with the district creates a multi-layered, differentiated picture of Favoriten. Artistic interventions and performances such as “Female Bodies resting in public space” by the KLAUS collective focus on making the female perspective visible in public space. Inspired by the feminist activist Valie Export, who shaped activism 50 years ago, the project questions what feminist activism can look like today. The performers use their bodies to create sculptures and dance scenes that address the role of women in public space. A project by ECHOLOT in co-production with INSELMILIEU Reportage
