O-Töne Literaturfestival

O-Töne Literaturfestival

After the loneliness of the pandemic, just in time for this 20th anniversary edition of O-Töne, social conditions are now returning to Austrian literature. But there is also a serious concern about the planet we inhabit. Birgit Birnbacher takes a sociological look at a village in the farthest reaches of Salzburg and asks what people are supposed to live on when they no longer have a job. Ana Marwan’s heroine pulls herself out of the misery of a hospital stay. Teresa Präauer dissects a boboesque dinner party in several narrative attempts. Milena Michiko Flašar’s Japanese protagonist takes care of the earthly remains of single people. Tonio Schachinger puts the student Gerber into a digital environment. Sabine Gruber examines the expiry dates of love in the face of death. In Laura Freudenthaler’s work, life becomes a survival of global threats, and in Franz Schuh’s work we encounter a man without complaints. In a doubly ironic sense, namely only supposedly without physical suffering and also only supposedly without reason to complain.

This year, the literary debuts also go out among men again. With Eva Reisinger, men need strong nerves. Greta Lauer and Johanna Sebauer describe really strange villages. Cornelia Hülmbauer’s village is quite normal, the family picture grouped around a car repair shop. Fabian Wakolbinger goes into the company of homeless people. Karoline Therese Marth creates a little paradise for herself by writing. In Luca Kieser’s work, something threatening happens under water, and Matthias Gruber’s work is about nothing less than living on in the rubbish. Rather depressing prospects. Or even hair-raising. Take a look!

For its 20th anniversary, the big literature open-air presents a young and at the same time top-class literary programme across current new publications. In the main courtyard of the MuseumsQuartier Wien, eight well-known authors will meet eight exciting debuts.
With Birgit Birnbacher, Ana Marwan, Teresa Präauer, Tonio Schachinger, Franz Schuh and others.

From 13 July to 31 August, authors will read from their works every Thursday at the Literature Festival in the MuseumsQuartier. Current Austrian literature in the MuseumsQuartier.
