Even though winter is close, there are some things that can bring warm to your heart. Youssou being an example of that – tag along to see his journey from Africa to Sweden accompanied by his burning passion for music.
Youssou N’Dour is one of Africa’s greatest and most influential artists, both musically and socially. The polar laureate has received numerous awards for his work and over the years has made successful collaborations with greats such as Peter Gabriel, Sting, Tracy Chapman, Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen, Wyclef Jean and Burna Boy.
Youssou N’Dour’s music springs from the popular M’balax style of music, a genre that Youssou himself has played a large part in shaping. He is a composer, bandleader and producer, and although he is firmly rooted in Senegalese music and culture, he is constantly adding new impressions and influences from the outside world.
His strong commitment to pan-African social issues has made him an important voice with several assignments for organisations such as Amnesty International, the UN and UNICEF. Legendary music magazine Rolling Stone has called him “Africa’s most famous living singer”. In 2007, N’dour was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time Magazine and is the best-selling African pop musician of all time with more than 30 album releases. In recent years, the singles “Nay” and “Mbeggeul is all” and “Be careful” have topped the charts in his native Senegal and The Gambia.
Today, he’s riding high with the 2021 album “MBALAX” and latest single “Le Grand Bal” released earlier this year. We are proud to present Youssou N’Dour and his legendary band Le Super Étoile de Dakar at Konserthuset in Stockholm on 6 November during Selam Festival Stockholm.
