If I had to describe the plot of Much fuss for nothing, as I see it, in three words, it would be: a series of overreactions. Most of the characters in the play react and act rashly in various situations. Instead of digesting new information and reflecting first, instead of going to the person the information is about and talking to them first, the characters launch into hot words and actions. Doesn’t that sound like something we recognise from our own time? Polarization rather than dialogue. What the roles are ranting about often turns out to be… nothing. Those they hotly claim turn out to be the opposite. Often there is a lot of talk and little action. When people overreact, the result is often dramatic: sometimes tragic and not infrequently unintentionally comic. So welcome to see a show filled with drama, tragedy, comedy – and hopefully some insights and lessons. Plus, it is, after all, a celebration of joy and true love.
