Little Vatican World online course by Roma Sparita
Another online event created just for you! The heart of Italy, the heart of Rome and also of the whole world. Vatican, lat. Status Civitatis Vaticanae, is the smallest state in the world. It is located in the center of Rome, like a small enclave. The territory of the Vatican in its territory includes the St. Peter’s Basilica, St. Peter’s Square with the Apostolic Palace, adjacent buildings, and the Vatican Gardens. The Vatican also includes the so-called extraterritorial territories – patriarchal basilicas and papal summer residence in Castel Gandolfo. The population is mainly composed of bishops, priests, and members of the Pope’s personal guard – the Swiss Guard. This small state has an exceptional collection of rare buildings and works of art. In the Vatican museums, we can find the most important art collections in the world. We find the best-known works of the greatest in the world. And did you know that St. Peter’s Basilica is the largest church in the world? She managed to maintain this honor thanks to a trick. Since it is a church located right next to the Holy See, they have decided to keep it as unique as possible. For this reason, other churches cannot be larger than the basilica and their construction is therefore significantly limited. And did you know that in the Vatican you find the only ATM in the world that is in Latin? And that the Vatican is the only country entirely inscribed on the UNESCO list?
