Barrel organ comes alive!

As part of the International Organ-Grinder Festival, which takes place in the center of Prague on August 17, 2024, street performers from various parts of the Czech Republic will bring the city to life with concerts spanning different genres. The festival will begin at 10:00 AM with a concert in the Church of St. Nicholas on Old Town Square.

This year, the festival will also feature organ-grinders from France, Austria, Germany, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia. The unique combination of carnival music within the sacred setting of the church offers listeners a surprising and unique musical experience each year, where they can hear well-known classical pieces in original renditions that cannot be heard elsewhere.

The afternoon part of the festival will move outdoors. Starting at 3:00 PM, organ-grinders will perform on the picturesque Na Kampa Square near Charles Bridge. Another performance will take place from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM at the Salla Terrena in Kampa Park. These improvised performances, held in locations with an unmatched atmosphere, capture the attention of all passersby each year. The festival will conclude with an evening concert at the Czech Museum of Music at 7:00 PM, where visitors can look forward to a diverse mix of genres, including classical, pop, jazz, and folk music.

After the final concert, visitors will have the opportunity to get closer to the performers, explore their instruments, and even try playing them.
