The beginning of August in Prague traditionally belongs to flaxinets. This year, the National Museum has already prepared the jubilee edition of the festival Flašinet žije!, which will take place on Saturday 12 August 2023. Street artists from different parts of the Czech Republic and Slovakia will enliven the centre of Prague with three concerts of different genres.

The festival will start at 10.00 a.m. with a concert in the Church of St. Nicholas on Old Town Square, when the baroque church will ring with popular classical music. Listeners will have the opportunity to hear a number of well-known pieces from the world of classical music in an original arrangement that they will not hear anywhere else.

The afternoon concert will take place outdoors in the open air. From 15:00, the flaxen players will play on the picturesque Na Kampa Square near the Charles Bridge. Don’t miss the relaxed, impromptu performance in a place with a unique atmosphere that catches the attention of all passers-by every year.

The evening concert will take place at 7 pm at the Czech Museum of Music.

Here you can look forward to a varied mix of songs from all genres, from classical to ragtime or jazz to folk songs. After the official part of the concert, visitors will be able to get up close to the performers, see their instruments and even try their hand at playing them themselves.

Throughout the day, the Czech Museum of Music and its permanent exhibition will be open to visitors, which includes, for example, a large fairground orchestrion or a banjo player’s machine.

Admission to the Czech Museum of Music and all concerts is free throughout the festival.
