Hostivař Dam

Hostivař Reservoir, located on the southeastern edge of Prague between the districts of Hostivař and Petrovice, is one of the largest natural swimming areas in the capital and a great tip for a family outing with kids.

This water reservoir was built in the 1960s and has since become a popular recreation spot not only for residents of Prague 10 but also for visitors from across the city. Thanks to its location in the middle of a large forest park, Hostivař Reservoir offers an ideal combination of swimming, nature, and leisure activities.

For families with children, the reservoir is an excellent choice, especially during the summer months. The main beach, with its gentle slope into the water, is suitable even for smaller kids. There are sandy and grassy areas for sunbathing, shaded spots under the trees, and a modern playground with climbing frames and slides. Facilities on site include restrooms, changing cabins, and refreshments – including ice cream and fast food.

The area around the reservoir features many paths suitable for strollers, balance bikes, and bicycles, making it a great place for walks and bike trips. The Hostivař forest park also provides pleasant shade and a calm atmosphere, perfect for a picnic or relaxing on a blanket. More active visitors can enjoy volleyball courts or rent pedal boats and paddleboards.

The reservoir is easily accessible by public transport – the nearest bus and tram stops are within walking distance, and it takes about 30–40 minutes to get here from the city center. During the summer season, entry to the main beach is charged, but outside of the main season or when walking around the reservoir, access is free.
