The Malá Inventura Festival, held from February 20 to 28, 2025, at 16 different venues across Prague, is one of the most significant cultural events for fans of contemporary theater in the Czech Republic.
This prestigious festival focuses on a retrospective of the most interesting and outstanding premieres of the past year, showcasing the best in physical, dance, visual, interactive, vocal, non-verbal, and experimental theater. Malá Inventura has become a platform for innovative and progressive creators who are unafraid to experiment and push the boundaries of traditional theater art.
The festival offers audiences the chance to discover new works that reflect current societal issues and artistic trends. The program is diverse, featuring 25 productions covering a wide range of genres and styles. This year, the festival will present not only renowned ensembles like Cirk La Putyka, A Studio Rubín, and Divadlo Polárka but also emerging talents bringing fresh ideas and original approaches to theater-making.
Among the highlights of the festival are productions such as “Endemité: Stories of Disappearance” by A Studio Rubín, “I’ll Make a Hole to Stick Out Of” by Berta Doubková and collective, and “Hey, Earth!” by Cirk La Putyka, known for its unique blend of acrobatics, dance, and visual effects. The festival also introduces young independent creators like Jan Mocek with his project “Wandervogel” and Ester Trčková with “Entropy”, offering new perspectives on modern theater.
Side Program: Lectures, Discussions, and Performances
Malá Inventura is more than just performances. The festival also features a rich accompanying program, including lectures, discussions, and musical performances that reflect current cultural phenomena. This year’s side program includes the musical performance D’epog: Headbanger, inspired by the iconic headbanging dance move in rock music. Another intriguing event is the lecture ALEX, where Adam Dragun will present his new documentary project.
For those who want a deeper look behind the scenes of the festival, Guided Tours will provide a glimpse into the secrets of individual stages and theater spaces. Other interactive activities include networking events for artists and cultural promoters from the Czech Republic and abroad, titled Sbal hojito!, and the ART-IN-RES symposium, focusing on the development of new trends in art and culture.
