From January 23 to 25, 2026, Prague’s Bio Oko cinema will once again transform into a haven for lovers of film rarities, genre experiments, and bold, unconventional cinema. Kinomixér 2026, the fourth edition of this distinctive film showcase, will present a carefully curated selection of the most intriguing examples of world genre filmmaking — ranging from short films and silent classics to cult fantasy and original animation.
The festival will kick off on Friday evening with the audiovisual project Appofeniacs, setting the tone and unique atmosphere of the entire event. This will be followed by the iShorts block, a selection of outstanding short films that demonstrate just how diverse, playful, and surprising contemporary genre cinema can be.
Saturday’s program promises a truly exceptional experience. The silent film classic Destiny (Der müde Tod) will be screened with live musical accompaniment by world-renowned lutenist Jozef van Wissem. This rare audiovisual performance will connect film history with live music, creating an intense and emotionally powerful experience. The evening will then conclude with the cult fantasy film Deathstalker, a treat for fans of B-movies and nostalgic genre adventures.
Sunday evening will be dedicated to the original Mexican stop-motion animation Frankelda (Soy Frankelda), which has gained attention for its dark atmosphere, striking visual style, and unconventional storytelling. This screening will elegantly close three days filled with cinematic discoveries and unconventional film experiences.
Kinomixér has long upheld its reputation as a festival unafraid to step outside the mainstream. It is designed both for demanding cinephiles and for anyone who enjoys discovering forgotten gems, genre experiments, and films that stimulate the imagination and push the boundaries of the traditional movie-going experience.
If you are looking for a January cultural event that will break you out of routine and offer something truly different, Kinomixér at Bio Oko 2026 should definitely be on your list.
