The Three Kings Ball

Join us for the 26th annual Medieval Epiphany Ball, taking place on January 11, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM in the historic refectory of the Emmaus Monastery Na Slovanech in Prague 2.

Celebrate the New Year and immerse yourself in medieval traditions and customs. The evening’s program will transport you to the eras of Gothic, Romanesque, and early Renaissance styles.

Musical accompaniment will be provided by the ensemble Fragium16, led by Pavel Jirásek, while dance instruction and entertainment will be led by tanzmagister Miroslav Smaha. The historic dance troupe REGII CAROLI REGIS will perform royal dances as well as lively bourgeois variations.

This year’s novelty is a contest for the most authentic attire, the most beautiful costume, and hairstyle. Guests will also have the chance to participate in medieval dance lessons, even if they have no prior experience.

Entrance to the ball will lead through the monastery’s Gothic cloister surrounding the paradise courtyard. A changing room will be available near the refectory.

For an authentic experience, costumes reflecting medieval fashion (11th–15th centuries) are recommended. However, costumes are not mandatory—guests without period attire are welcome in contemporary formal wear. Costume rentals are available, including from the dance school’s wardrobe for a cleaning fee of 500 CZK.

Guests may bring their own food and beverages, which will be served on historical tableware provided in the hall. The ball will also feature the annual showcase of historical recipes. Attendees can submit dishes or drinks inspired by medieval or Old Czech recipes, judged on flavor, preparation complexity, and ingredient selection. Winners will receive valuable prizes.
