From November 8, 2024, to March 2, 2025, the Wallenstein Riding School in Prague invites you to a unique exhibition: École de Paris: Artists from Bohemia and Interwar Paris.

The exhibition reveals the fascinating stories and works of artists who left their mark on the interwar art scene in France. This is a rare opportunity to delve into the lives and creations of not only Czech but also international artists who shaped modern art in the cosmopolitan atmosphere of Paris.

When one thinks of “Czech artists in interwar Paris,” names like František Kupka, Josef Šíma, Toyen, and Jindřich Štyrský come to mind. However, the exhibition focuses on artists who were even more renowned in Paris at the time: Georges Kars, Othon Coubine, and François Maurice Eberl. These artists shone in prestigious exhibitions, galleries, and art magazines and were integral to the vibrant communities of Montmartre and Montparnasse.

Alongside their lesser-known works, the exhibition features pieces by global icons such as Amedeo Modigliani, Chaim Soutine, Jules Pascin, and Tsuguharu Foujita, whose unique styles profoundly influenced the École de Paris.

Interwar Paris was a melting pot of styles, cultures, and approaches. This unique atmosphere gave rise to works characterized by their depth and diversity. The exhibition explores how the environment of Paris influenced not only the style but also the themes of these artists’ creations.
