Designblok, the Prague International Design Festival, will take place from October 2 to 6, 2024, and is one of the largest design and fashion showcases in Central Europe.
This year marks the 26th edition, with the theme “Youth,” featuring creations from both emerging talents and established designers. The festival will be held across several prestigious locations throughout Prague, including Prague Castle, the Museum of Decorative Arts, the City of Prague Museum, and Bastion Florenc.
The event will present a wide range of exhibitions focused on contemporary Czech and international design. Exhibitors will showcase innovations in categories ranging from furniture and home accessories to fashion and jewelry design. In addition to the main exhibition, Superstudio, which features products from companies and manufacturers, visitors can look forward to Openstudio, displaying prototypes and limited-edition pieces from independent designers and studios.
The program also includes numerous accompanying events – lectures, discussions, fashion shows, networking events, and special gatherings. A highlight will be the retrospective exhibition of Bóda Horák at the Museum of Decorative Arts, along with the curated High Craft exhibition at Prague Castle Riding Hall, offering a fresh perspective on traditional crafts.
Tickets are available online and at the box offices of the individual locations. The festival pass provides access to lectures, panel discussions, and is required for entry to the main exhibitions. The pass also offers a unique opportunity to visit the recently renovated historical building of the City of Prague Museum.
Designblok 2024 will take place in several significant locations in Prague, enhancing the experience of the festival and its showcased works.
Here are the main venues:
Prague Castle Riding Hall – U Prašného mostu 3, Prague 1
The grand hall of Prague Castle’s Riding Hall will host the prestigious High Craft exhibition, which blends traditional craftsmanship with innovative approaches and top-tier design. This exhibition will feature works from over thirty Czech designers and brands, combining aesthetics with responsibility and innovation. The exhibition spaces will also offer High Craft Books, highlighting high-quality graphic design in publications from leading Czech publishers.
City of Prague Museum – Na Poříčí 52, Prague 1
After a recent renovation, the main historical building of the City of Prague Museum will participate in Designblok for the first time. Here, you will find Superstudio, showcasing the latest in Czech and international design. The main focus will be on furniture, lighting, and home accessories developed in collaboration with top designers. In addition, part of the accompanying program and special exhibitions focusing on young talents will be hosted here.
Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague – 17. listopadu 2, Prague 1
This Neo-Renaissance building will be home to Openstudio, where independent designers, studios, and schools will showcase their work, primarily prototypes and limited-edition pieces. The museum will also host a retrospective exhibition of Bóda Horák, a legend of Czech postmodern design, offering insights into his iconic works and approach to design. This exhibition will remain open until October 28, 2024.
Bastion Florenc – Křižíkova 2A, Prague 8
The modern development project Bastion Florenc will serve as a space for exhibitions by designers, design studios, and Central European schools. The architectural setting of Bastion will create an inspiring backdrop for the presentation of contemporary authorial design, from product design to fashion and graphic arts. This space will focus on prototypes and small-batch production without the involvement of large commercial manufacturers.
Each of these locations will offer visitors a unique atmosphere and a diverse selection of the best in contemporary design.
Designblok is the perfect opportunity for all design enthusiasts who want to experience the unique atmosphere and inspiration directly from the creators.
