Bal-love Weekend

Bal-Love Weekend 2024 is approaching! This unique weekend festival, filled with music, dance, and fun, takes place from August 9th to 11th, 2024, in the heart of Prague.

Bal-Love Weekend: Course Levels and Extended Workshops

Regular Classes and Practice Sessions:
During the weekend, Bal-Love offers 6 hours of regular classes and an additional 2 hours of practice sessions on Saturday and Sunday. All classes and extended workshops are taught in English.

Course Levels:
Intermediate-Advanced: For dancers with at least 2 years of experience who are comfortable with complex moves and rhythmic variations. Focuses on improving technique, transitions, flow, and musicality. No audition required.

Advanced: For dancers who master the skills described in Intermediate-Advanced, regularly attend international festivals, and have a developed personal style. No audition required.

Advanced+: Reserved for top-level dancers who excel in Advanced classes, train regularly, and are comfortable with fast-paced learning. Requires registration and passing an audition on Saturday morning. Dancers who don’t pass will be placed in the Advanced level.

Masters (Invitational): Exclusive for the most experienced dancers who have registered for Advanced+ and received an invitation. Invitations will be sent before the festival and may also be given during the Advanced+ audition.

Practice Sessions:
Practice sessions will include dancers of varying levels. You will rotate partners and do not need to bring a partner. These sessions are designed to give you more time to work on your skills learned during classes and expand on new and old techniques. Sessions will be led by instructors who will help and answer your questions.

Bal-Love Challenge:

Description: Open to all dancers. Register in pairs for preliminaries; finals will be spotlights.
Entry Fee: 20 EUR / couple
Registration: Online before the weekend

Prelims: Saturday 17:00
Finals: Saturday 23:45

Balboa Mix & Match – Open Division:

Description: Social mix and match competition. Leaders and Followers sign up individually; partners chosen randomly.
Entry Fee: 10 EUR / person
Registration: Online before the weekend
Payment: Cash at check-in (Friday 19:00-22:00)
Prelims: Saturday 17:20
Finals: Sunday 21:45

Balboa Mix & Match – Rising Star Division:

Description: For dancers who haven’t made finals in open division or are in intermediate-advanced classes.
Entry Fee: 10 EUR / person
Registration: Online before the weekend
Payment: Cash at check-in (Friday 19:00-22:00)
Prelims: Saturday 17:20
Finals: Saturday 22:15

Fast and Slow – Pure Balboa Competition:

Description: No entry fee; just show up and dance to fast and slow swing music. Combined Pure Balboa and Slow Balboa competition.
Prelims & Finals: Friday around 23:30

Location and Transportation:

All venues for Bal-Love WEEKEND classes, main parties, and lunch are within walking distance of each other, near Wenceslas Square and the Main Train Station (Hlavní nádraží). The easiest way to get there is by metro (Hlavní nádraží station – red line C or Muzeum station – red line C/green line A) or trams.
