A photograph by Adam Lach showing a man stuck in a car between a police cordon and protesters against the ruling of the Constitutional Tribunal, won in this year’s edition of Grand Press Photo 2021. A fascinating exhibition composed of this and other over 270 awarded photos can now be seen in Bronowice Gallery. This is the only place in Krakow where this prestigious exhibition will be hosted until 19 November. Admission is free.
For the 16th time, out of thousands of entries to the Nationwide Contest of Reporters’ Photographs Grand Press Photo, the jury chaired by the French photojournalist, winner of awards in the most important photo contests in the world, including World Press Photo 2020 – Romain Laurendeau, selected several hundred best works.
In the exhibition, which from 31 October to 19 November can be seen in Bronowice Gallery, we will see current, hot topics documented with masterful precision, recorded fleeting moments, emotions and gestures. Protests against the Constitutional Tribunal’s ruling on abortion, the 2020 Warsaw Independence March, the evacuation of patients infected with the COVID-19 virus from social welfare homes, the empty spaces of Krakow theatres during a lockdown, the drug business in Afghanistan, illegal abortions – these are just some of the selected photographs featured in the exhibition. Grand Press Photo 2021 consists of shots from all over the world and from almost every walk of life. This is a total of 272 single photographs, photo essays, documentary projects and proposals by representatives of the young generation, who won in the Young Poland category.
Among the authors of the photos presented at the exhibition there are also photojournalists living or working in Krakow and its surroundings. These include Dorota Grzegorczyk, Agata Wnuk, Magdalena Woch, Beata Zawrzel and Leszek Szymański.
– I am very happy that we are making the space of Bronowice Gallery available to show the work of the best photojournalists in the country. We are the only location in Krakow where this unique exposition has appeared. Every year, the Grand Press Photo exhibition arouses extraordinary emotions, delights, amazes and moves. I hope that the photos you will see in our facility will stay in your memory for at least a while and make you reflect. I invite you to the exhibition – says Aleksandra Mańka, Director of the Bronowice Gallery.
