It seems like a bad joke – or terribly simplifying prejudice – but the history of Russia is influenced and connected to vodka. But how exactly this beverage influenced Russian society? And to what extend, especially in the period of Ivan the Terrible? How is it traditionally prepared and with what kinds of foods is it consumed? And is this alcohol, so strongly connected to Russia, even Russian in its origin?
