1. Trip to the Danube Island
Numerous beaches, hike trails, lounges, bars, pubs and cafés alongside the 21-kilometer-long area offer lots of opportunities for people to go out and enjoy a little bit of sunshine. If you are a fan of sports you won´t be disappointed either. There are lots of opportunities to cycle, skate, jog or just simply walk around the shore of the Danube. Or you can rent a boat and enjoy the sunshine and water at the same time.
2. Belvedere & Belvedere Gardens
For those who like architecture, a little bit of history and nature the Belvedere complex is certainly a must place to visit. The whole area is made up of two Baroque palaces – Upper & Lower Belvedere, greenhouse, and palace gardens. The garden has been built in the French style which has been very popular in the imperial Vienna. It includes cascades decorated with fountains and flower beds of various interesting and colourful plants. Some levels of the cascades have Baroque sculptures that decorate the path and the gardens where you can sit down and relax.
3. Trip to Nature Reserve Foehrenberge
The nature reserve offers its visitors plenty of mountain bike routes where you can take your kids and families for a nice day out. You can have a picnic in the meadows filled with flowers or find shelter at the picnic tables spread all around the area. At the site of more than 6 hectares, there is a lot to see and we think that everyone will be able to find their favourite spot in the vast and diverse landscape of the reserve.
4. Kahlenberg Mountain
If you are looking for a place to go to for a day trip, one of the places we recommend is Kahlenberg mountain in Vienna. Located in the Vienna Woods it is one of the best places where you can enjoy a view over the entire city of Vienna and the vineyards in the vicinity of Kalhlenberg.
5. Schönbrunn Gardens and Gloriette trip
In the area of about 120 hectares, there are many beautiful places to see. Perhaps the most famous one is the majestic Neptune fountain located exactly opposite the palace, the Roman Ruin at the slope of the hill which leads to the Gloriette or the maze and its viewing platform from where you can look around and observe the landscape. You may even wander into the little Japanese garden located Near the Palm House or check out the animals which found their home in the adjoining Schönbrunn Zoo.
6. Trip to Vienna Woods
Around 45 km long and 30 km wide area is a place where a lot of Vienna´s population goes to relax every day. Whether to jog, hike or simply walk around and enjoy nature. The whole landscape is a hiking paradise for lovers of nature with endless possibilities for spending time outdoors. Some hiking trails and places interesting to see are for example the Beethoven hiking trail which was renovated as a part of the celebrations of Beethoven year 2020, Kurpark in the spa in Baden with beautiful fountains, the cholera chapel, cider taverns, vineyards in Sooß or the Calvary in Maria-Lanzendorf.
7. Klosterneuburg City & Monastery
You can visit its tower, Gothic chapel and Saint Leopold´s tomb where a skull of Saint Leopold can be seen – the founder of the monastery – which dates back to the middle ages. In the late 19th century a part of the monastery has been rebuilt to fit the neo-gothic style popular at that time. The crown jewels in the jewelry and 4 story tombs under the monastery together with the wine estate and orchard which are a part of the monastery are (in our opinion) a must places to visit.
8. Trip to Roman City of Carnuntum
The whole archaeological park extends in the area of approx. 10 square kilometers and holds the remnants of the city as well as the legionary headquarters where more than 50 thousand people had their home. The city is easily accessible either by a car or the train and offers lots of activities not only for adults but also for children, such as “Carnuntum with kids“ event where children will have a chance to experience the authentic daily life of Roman citizens in a fun and interactive way. You´ll be able to visit reconstructed buildings of Roman legionaries, merchants as well as ordinary people. And if you´re interested you can check out the famous Roman bathhouse as well 😀
9. Schönbrunn Zoo
The Schönbrunnn Zoo is located on the premises of Schönbrunn Gardens and is home to more than 700 animal species and lies on almost 17-hectare site. It is a part of the UNESCO World Heritage list and has been awarded Europe´s Best Zoo Award five times in a row. You can come and have a look at various species of animals, some endangered and very rare, and find out more about how they live and why they have to be protected.
10. Botanical Garden University of Vienna
Nowadays, you´ll be able to enjoy more than 11, 000 species of plants which have been planted either in the outdoor area or in the greenhouses which were originally built in the early 1890s. You´ll be able to see more common species such as orchids, violets, and roses but also tropical plants native to subtropical areas such as cacti or even pineapples.
