An outing to the Lainz Game Reserve, the former hunting grounds of the imperial house in western Vienna, is a great nature experience for the entire family. Admission is free.
On an area of 2,450 hectares, visitors can experience a unique natural and cultural landscape with an enormous diversity of animals and plants. While hiking through the reserve, you may see wild boars, stags or deer crossing the path, or with some luck and patience, you may also observe woodpeckers, salamanders and bats.
Six forest playgrounds offer a chance to let loose. The forest and nature trail can educate you about the Vienna Woods, the Lainz Game Reserve, its history and its plants and animals. There are also carriage rides as well as tours and excursions dedicated to various topics (wild herb hikes, bats, bird songs, etc.).
