Even though Felix Mendelssohn never visited Kazimierz or even Kraków, his extensive, universal body of work makes him the perfect choice as the patron of the celebrations of chamber music which form an enduring part of the cultural programme of the former Jewish quarter. The 14th Days of Felix Mendelssohn (10-20 May) bring ten concerts to three fascinating venues (not just in Kazimierz): the Centre for Jewish Culture, the Church of St Martin and the Nowodworski Collegium. Stars of the festival include Polish artists who work abroad: we will see Krzysztof Polonek, concertmaster with the Berlin Philharmonic, performing with his Berlin Piano Trio, the New York resident pianist Roman Markowicz, and the Affetto Piano Trio whose members are students from the Hochschule der Künste in Bern. We will also see Cuarteto Granados from Spain, and Kraków’s own Sinfonietta Cracovia performing during the finale.
