The eighth edition of the NORDIC FILM FEST is held in Rome from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 May. The exhibition that was born with the intention of promoting the cinematography and culture of the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden), by the four Nordic embassies present in Italy and with the collaboration of the Scandinavian Circle, will take place at the Casa del Cinema in Rome, will present new films in preview or unpublished in Italy and is also produced in collaboration with the Embassy of Iceland in Paris, the Film Institutes of the respective countries and under the patronage of the Municipality of Rome and the Lazio Region.
In addition to screenings in the original language with subtitles in Italian or English and with free admission, the program includes presentations and meetings with international guests (directors, actors, producers, screenwriters). The theme of this year’s event will be „Borders / Borders“, not only in a geographical sense but also between „worlds“, different ways of being and thinking.
To officially open the NORDIC FILM FEST 2019 , with the presence of the actress Alba August and the producer Lars G. Lindström , the biographical film „BECOMING ASTRID“, on the life of Astrid Lindgren, one of the most important writers of children’s literature from the twentieth century, author of the best seller „Pippi Longstocking“. The film tells of a young Astrid who decides to break the strict rules of early 20th-century society and follow her heart.
The film received 7 nominations for the Guldbagge Awards (the most important film award released in Sweden), including best film and best actress. Before the opening the Finnish documentary „EVERY OTHER COUPLE“ will be screened, introduced by the director Mia Halme, on the stories of divorced couples, nominated for best international documentary at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival.

Friday, May 3 at 9:30 pm the Finnish „VOID“ presented by director Aleksi Salmenperä; dramatic, tragic and eccentric comedy about the price of success and the fear of failure, about mutual incomprehensibility in a couple relationship, film winner of 4 Jussi Awards (the most important film award released in Finland), including best film and best director ;
Saturday 4 May at 7.00 pm the Swedish „BORDER – Border Creatures“ by Ali Abbasi, presented by the producer Piodor Gustafsson, a surprising film that both worries and marvels, crossing a fantastic atmosphere and social news, Oscar candidate for the best make-up and hairstyle, best film at Un Certain Regard at the last Cannes Film Festival, 4 nominations for the European Film Awards, winner of the Noir in Festival, winner of 6 Guldbagge Awards, including best film and best actress;
Saturday 4 May at 9.30 pm the Norwegian „WHAT WILL PEOPLE SAY“ presented by the director Iram Haq, autobiographical film on the life of a sixteen year old of Pakistani origin, daughter of immigrants in Norway, who is violently distorted when her father finds her in the company of a peer, deciding to send her back to the motherland, forcing her to submission2-5 May 2019
