The Ôtsu-e or „Ôtsu images“ are paintings that became popular in Japan during the Edo period. They were sold to travelers and pilgrims who took the road from Tôkaidô connecting Kyoto to Edo (now Tokyo), and the city of Otsu is the first relay. The exhibition presents more than one hundred particularly rare and fragile works: paintings, prints and illustrated books … Explore more than one hundred and twenty works and documents from private collections and museums in Japan, Catalonia and France.
