Johnny Clarke

Johnny Clarke from Jamaica Live at CSOA Forte Prenestino

Friday, April 12, the historic occupation of Centocelle will open its doors to welcome a unique evening of its kind, outside the hectic and alienating daily life!

MOVE OUTTA BABYLON recites one of the memorable hits that JOHNNY CLARKE has strung together during his forty-year career; and this is our sincere invitation! Cross the drawbridge of the CSOA FORTE PRENESTINO and take an active part in a moment of joyful and decidedly militant collective meeting in every variation of its contents!

An event enhanced by the opening act of LADY FLAVIA of the VILLA ADA POSSE and by the late night dub showcase of SISTA GAIA by the Dub Waves Project collective. All backed by the experience of COOL RUNNINGS SOUND, the rub a dub sound of Rome since 1997!

JOHNNY CLARKE (1955, Kingston, Jamaica) is one of the foundations of Reggae music and one of the giants of music from the land of wood and springs.
With his crystalline voice and his inimitable way of singing, Mr. Clarke skilfully ranges between love lyrics, songs of pure militancy, hymns to legalization and invitations to non-violence. His name is inextricably linked to that of BUNNY LEE, then to the AGGROVATORS and finally to that KING TUBBY from whose insights was born what today is called DUB.

Not only: within the continuous reinventing typical of reggae it is necessary to mention the FLYING CYMBAL STYLE, a particular way of playing the drums enhanced by SANTA DAVIS and which is perfectly linked to his way of interpreting the upbeat music of which he is ambassador to peer of names like Peter Tosh & Jimmy Cliff.

Occasion more than rare to see it in action live & direct on the stage of one of the places of cultural and ethical resistance of the shabby fortress Europe.
The evening will support the activities and laboratories of the busy and self-managed social center Forte Prenestino and this will become an opportunity not to be missed to share, defend and breathe our freedom together.
Doing it with the energy of Johnny Clarke’s style is a way to practice militancy by carrying a load of positive and cultural musical vibrations.

The Forte Prenestino has been a busy and self-managed social center since 1986. It is a social center, a place for socializing, meeting, having fun and organizing collective time, for exchanging ideas, visions, energies and knowledge. The Fort experiments with the organization of its own space and its activities based on the free association of individuals united by a planning and a shared ethics. This is why the fort experiences non-work and self-managed models of life, experiences another sociality and another economy because it is part of an immense and variegated reality, of anyone who fights every day because another world is possible, made of free and equal and solidarity individuals. This is why the strong is anti-fascist, anti-sexist, anti-racist, anti-prohibitionist.
