As is known, La Messa da Requiem in D minor K 626 was the last work created by the genius of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. A composition left unfinished, as everyone knows, for the untimely death of its author on December 5th and 1791 when he was just over thirty-five. The work has generated and continues to generate around itself even now an aura of mystery linked to the controversial death of Mozart that still today divides the opinions of historians and musicologists. In fact, the author died the day after writing the first lines of the famous Lacrimosa, a part that was later terminated by the student and friend Franz Xaver Süssmayr. As told by Stendhal, in his famous writings, shortly before Mozart’s death, an anonymous client knocked on the composer’s door late at night. This strange character, dressed according to the descriptions with a dark cloak and wearing a carnival mask, he asked Mozart to compose a requiem mass in four weeks, under the cover of 50 ducats. The author could not finish the work in the agreed time and the strange client returned with another 50 ducats, doubling the time available. The author accepted but died soon after leaving this unfinished masterpiece.
