Even today, 130 years after it was first painted, Paul Sérusier’s ‘Talisman’ continues to fascinate art lovers. The painting, which was inspired by Paul Gauguin’s techniques, is the centrepiece of this exhibition presenting works by artists who formed part of the Nabis movement and their new post-Impressionist aesthetic. The yellow trees and blue shadows of the ‘Talisman’ are harbingers of a new style of painting that explores the pure, the personal and the abstract.
