Kalenderberg hike

19.03.2023

Social Hike: Kalenderberg. Be inspired like Beethoven, who roamed these hills in 1814. After gathering at Vienna Main Station (Wien Hauptbahnhof) we’ll catch a 20-minute train to Mödling, a quaint town just outside Vienna. A short walk will lead us straight through the town up to the thick-walled St. Othmar Church. There, we start our proper ~2 hours hike up and around the picturesque Kalenderberg with its token Castle Liechtenstein, which starred in Stephen Herek’s “The Three Musketeers”. Expect a lush pine forest, magnificent views and impressive medieval architecture. Underway, we’ll have fun with social games, discussion prompts and local trivia.

Highlights:

St. Othmar parish church (15th century)
Roman-style Amphitheatre
Castle Liechtenstein (12th century)
Pepper tin chapel ruins (Pfefferbüchsel)
Jordankanzel
Black Tower
City stroll

After the hike we’ll take a leisurely stroll through Mödling’s medieval city center before hopping back on the train to Vienna Main Station (Wien Hauptbahnhof).
