The ugly manuscripts of the Cross of Telč (1434-1504). The medieval manuscripts in the National Library of the Czech Republic date for the most part from the 14th and 15th centuries. They are not richly illuminated codices made of rare parchment, but often cursorily written, untidy or even “ugly” paper volumes. The exhibition will present those that passed through the hands of a single very active scribe, Kříž of Telč. He copied or annotated a total of more than 25,000 pages with various texts. It is a rare collection that provides a unique testimony to medieval thought and culture.
Guided tours of the exhibition take place every Wednesday at 5 pm. They begin on 8 February and the last one takes place on 15 March.
